Accounts Officer/Administrator
Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.
The Consulate is seeking to recruit a resourceful, proactive and flexible individual with previous experience in a similar environment to fill the position of Accounts Officer/Administrator in the Consulate.
Role
Administration of the Consulate’s finances, including preparation of monthly accounts, payment of invoices
Liaison with service providers and ensuring value for money and compliance with appropriate procedures and regulations (i.e. procurement, reviewing contracts where appropriate);
Assisting with Consulate events, which can range from large-scale meetings, to high-level visits and meetings with partners (i.e. Ministerial visits, St. Patrick’s Day reception);
Responsibility for day-to-day ICT and administrative tasks and front of office duties including dealing with visitors to the Consulate, phone, email and social media enquiries and maintaining contact databases;
Contributing as part of the wider Consulate team to administration and other work as required (i.e. traditional and social media content creation, newsletter publication, assisting with Consular Services as required);
In addition to the above, the Accounts Officer/Administrator may be required to carry out other functions subject to the business needs of the Consulate, including periodic out of hours and weekend cover for the Embassy’s consular duty service;
Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:
Candidates should have a degree in a relevant discipline or experience in similar role (at least 2 years’ experience), including book-keeping and accounts;
The candidate must demonstrate using work based examples of providing excellent interpersonal skills, being persuasive, working in a team but also dealing effectively with people in external organisations;
The candidate must provide evidence of flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness showing strong organizational skills, attention to detail, able to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks;
The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering results, including by adapting approach if necessary;
The candidate must be fluent in English and have C1 level German; (language test may be included as part of the shortlisting process);
The candidate must demonstrate using examples, their working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in Germany.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
A good understanding of the role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt;
The successful applicant will work alongside other local employees of the Consulate, and will report directly to the diplomatic staff in the Mission. Previous experience in a diplomatic mission is desirable, but not essential.
Familiarity with using different Social Media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Eventbrite, ClickDimensions), including content creation.
Previous experience of working in a Communications role.
Previous experience of events management (including large-scale events).
Terms and conditions of employment:
The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at Consulate General of Ireland, Frankfurt, 2-4 Bockenheimer Landstrasse, 60306 Frankfurt am Main. The aforementioned address is the Consulate’s temporary address. In the near future, the Consulate will move to its permanent location at Neue Mainzer Strasse (Frankfurt City Centre).
Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with standard office hours from 09:00am to 17:00pm. Blended working arrangements may also be agreed, in line with the business needs of the Consulate.
Annual Leave entitlement 24 days per annum.
The salary for the position is €35,860.67 per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account, therefore, the successful candidate must have a bank account.

Selection Process:
Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above;
It is planned that interviews will be held either in person or by video-conference before the end of June 2023;
A skills test may be included in the recruitment process;
A second interview may be included in the recruitment process; and
A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates;

Security Clearance for Local Staff
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment.
